- Australian PM Scott Morrison calls the act disgraceful
Melbourne: Just hours after it was unveiled, a life-sized bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Australian Indian Community Centre in Rowville in Melbourne was vandalized by miscreants last Friday.
The statue had been gifted by the Indian government.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called it a ‘disgraceful’ act and said it was extremely disappointing to see this level of disrespect.
“Whoever is responsible for this has shown great disrespect to the Australian Indian community and should be ashamed,” Morrison said.
According to police, the miscreants had used a power tool to damage the statue of Mahatma Gandhi between 5.30 pm on Friday and 5.30 pm on Saturday.
