Mumbai: At least 10 ministers and 20 MLAs in Maharashtra have tested positive for Covid-19 so far, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Saturday.

He added that the government may have to impose more restrictions if the numbers continued to rise in the state.

Maharashtra reported 8.067 fresh cases on Friday.

Maharashtra also accounts for the maximum Omicron cases in the country.

On Friday, another minister, Vijay Wadettiwar was quoted as saying that the state was approaching the stage of imposing a fresh lockdown. However, the decision on when to impose it would be taken by the chief minister, he said.

In view of the rising cases, the Bombay High Court on Friday decided to shift to hybrid mode of work in Mumbai from January 4 to January 7, after which the situation will be reviewed.

On Friday, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai announced a ban on entering beaches, parks, promenades and other public places between 5 pm and 5 am till January 15.
