The Maharashtra police has arrested eighteen more people in connection with the Palghar lynching case, officials said on Tuesday. The Crime Investigation Department (CID), which is probing the incident has so far arrested 134 people in the case. The case pertains to an incident in which three people, including two seers, were lynched by a mob of villagers in Palghar district in April.

Among those arrested are nine juveniles. The incident took place at Gadchinchle village on April 16. The two monks who fell victim to the lynching were heading for Surat from Mumbai in a car to attend a funeral. The third victim was their driver.

They were attacked by villagers who mistook them to be child-lifters, even as some police personnel who reached the spot remained mute spectators. The local police had come under severe criticism following the incident and the entire staff of the police station was transferred while some were suspended too. Earlier one of the accused in the case had tested positive for Coronavirus.
