Clashes between cops and residents were reported from the Shahpur area of the city on Friday. The cops had to resort to lathicharge to ensure that there was no violation of the lockdown. Five tear gas shells were also lobbed to bring the situation under control, and a cop was reported to be injured in the incident. The incident was reported from Shahpur adda and top police officials rushed to the spot to control the situation.
The situation went out of control, when residents of Rajaji ni Pol and Nagorivad area in Shahpur started coming out of their homes in the evening for Ramzan. Police who were on patrol duty insisted that people follow the lockdown. They tried to explain to the residents but the argument soon grew and the locals began to pelt stones on the cops.
Several people have been detained following the incident and as of now the situation has been brought under control. Since the lockdown began to be strictly implemented in Gujarat as well as Ahmedabad reports of clashes between citizens and police have become the norm.
Earlier police and migrants had clashed in Ahmedabad after they were reportedly prevented from leaving the city.
