The nationwide lockdown in containment zones has been extended up to June 30, Home Ministry said on Saturday. The Centre issued new guidelines for phased re-opening of all activities outside containment zones for the next one month.
It said that containment zones will be demarcated by district authorities after taking into consideration the guidelines provided by the home ministry. Only essential commodities will be allowed in containment zones and no movement of people in or out will be allowed except for medical emergencies and for maintaining supply of essential goods.
It has also given district authorities the freedom to identify buffer zones outside containment zones where new cases are likely to occur. It has said the district authorities have the freedom to put in place necessary restrictions in such buffer zones.
Schools, colleges, educational, training, coaching institutions will be opened after consultations with states and UTs, the Ministry of Home Affairs has said.
Religious places, hotels and malls allowed to be open from Jun 8 onwards. International air travel, metro, cinema halls, swimming pools, gymnasium, theaters and bars will continue to remain shut. Large congregations of people for whatever reason will continue to remain banned until further notice. Night curfew has been revised but the timings will be from 9pm to 5am.
