A lawyer in the city was cheated of Rs10 lakh through an online fraud after scamsters got to him by pretending to get the KYC of his Paytm account done. As per details available, Dhaval Nanavati, a resident of Galaxy Apartment in Bodakdev and a lawyer by profession had on May 18 received a message on his mobile phone stating that he needs to get the KYC of his Paytm account done.
The next day a person who claimed to be a Paytm employee called Nanavati and identified himself as Deepak Sharma . He then asked the victim to fill details of his account and credit card in the app’s G-passbook. The moment the details were put, Rs10.95 lakh was transferred from his account and credit card without his consent.
Ahmedabad has reported several such cases of online fraud with even cops and IAS officers falling victim to the scam. In most cases, the scamsters have enough data on their victim to convince them of the genuineness of a call.
