- Govt of India announces two days of national mourning following the demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar
Mumbai: India’s Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer and pride of India, bid adieu to the world on Sunday morning, leaving her family, friends and innumberable friends across the globe in deep pain.
She was 92.
The singer had been battling ill-health for past several days after testing positive for Covid-19 last month.
She had been admitted to the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. A few days ago, her team had said that she was recovering.
However, on Saturday, the doctors treating her said her condition had worsened and she was critical.
2 days of national mourning
In honour of the veteran singer, the government of India announced two days of national mourning and State Funeral for her. The Tricolour will be flown at half mast.
Lata Mangeshkar has received several awards and honours during her lifetime. She was also awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award bestowed by the Government of India.
She has also received the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke award, Filmfare awards, Lifetime Achievement awards, and several other honours.
