Lakhimpur Kheri: A day after a jeep allegedly ran over farmers and killed at least four of them, Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh has turned into a fortress, with heightened police deployment and suspension of internet services. Meanwhile, farmers have refused to perform the last rites of the dead until the guilty are arrested.

They have lodged a complaint against Union Minister Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish for the violence against farmers who had been protesting the Centre’s three controversial laws. They alleged that Ashish mowed down the farmers.

According to Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, the farmers were attacked when they were returning after protesting against the Centre’s three controversial farm laws.

Tikait alleged that the accused opened fire, leaving a few dead and several injured.

Meanwhile, farmers have blocked three highways in Lakhimpur Kheri

Minister cries controversy

Rubbishing the allegations as ‘conspiracy’, minister Ajay Mishra claimed that his son was not present at the spot at the time of the incident. He claimed that miscreants pelted stones at the jeeb because of which it overturned, killing two farmers. Mishra further claimed that his driver and three BJP workers in the vehicle were pulled out and lynched and their vehicle was later torched.
