Laden wanted Biden to be US prez as he would ‘lead it into a crisis’: Letter

Incumbent US President Joe Biden seemed to enjoy the favour of slain Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden for all the wrong reasons. The latter considered him incompetent and believed he would lead the US into a crisis if he were to inherit the presidency from then President Barack Obama, as per a letter that was seized from the compound in Pakistan where he was killed in 2011.

Laden had prohibited his men from killing Biden. It was Obama he wanted eliminated, according to the letter which was first made public in 2012.

In the letter, dated May 2010, Laden had instructed his men to target aircraft belonging to Obama and then CIA director David Petraeus. Killing Obama would mean an “unprepared” Biden would be the president for the rest of the term, thus leading the country into a crisis. He wanted two groups to be prepared– one in Pakistan and one in Afghanistan– to target Obama and Petraeus, but made it clear that Biden was not to be targeted.

The letter has surfaced once again amid widespread criticism of Biden’s decision to withdraw US troops from the war-torn Afghanistan, “abandoning” the Afghans and passing insensitive comments.
