Rs3700 cr Krushi Sahay Package: Narmada’s Adivasi farmers demand inclusion

Vishal Mistry, Rajpipla: Adivasi farmers in the state are up in arms after being left out of the Rs3700 crore Krushi Sahay Package announced by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. In all, 123 talukas of 20 districts are covered under the package.

Farmers in 4 talukas of Narmada district also suffered heavy losses due to the excessive rains but only one taluka from the district was included in the package. Earlier, farmers made a representation to the district authorities about the losses and the officials had formed a team to survey the damage.

The team covered Nandod, Garudeshwar, Tilakwada, Sagbara and Dediapada talukas in the survey to know the extent of losses.

As per the survey, eight villages in Garudeshwar, 45 villages in Nandod, 64 in Tilakwada and 76 in Dediapada had suffered losses. In all, 193 villages had suffered Rs68 lakh of losses as 6,230 ha of farmland was affected by heavy rains.

Only one talukas covered in Krushi Sahay Package

Yet, in the Kisan Sahay Package that Vijay Rupani announced, the state government only covered Nandod taluka in Narmada district while the rest were not considered.

Narmada Khetivadi officials Nilesh Bhatt said they will again make a list of losses reported from Garudeshwar, Tilakwada and Dediapada in the district and send it to the collector.

He said the district will appeal to the state to include the other talukas for compensation under the package.

Meanwhile BTP chief and Dediapada MLA Mahesh Vsasava in a letter to chief minister Vijay Rupani said it was sad that the government chose to ignore several tribal villages from Ambaji to Umargam in the Krushi Sahay Package.

Vasava said areas in the tribal belt lack irrigation facility and hence are dependent on monsoon for better crops. He said the farmers who were not covered in the package should be extended compensation under the package.
