Kieron Pollard completes 150 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians


Mumbai Indians (MI) was in a celebratory mode on Wednesday. It was not just the victory against Kolkata Knight Riders, but because one of their most successful and dependable player Kieron Pollard, aka ‘Polly’ completed 150 matches in IPL for Mumbai Indians.

Pollard has made his IPL debut in 2010 for Mumbai Indians against Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground and since then has remained with MI.

A Mumbai Indians’ veteran, ‘Polly’ has been with the side through thick and thin. He has seen MI emerge champions and he has seen them struggle. It is very clear that Pollard is central to MI’s theme and the team management and the owners have immense faith in his all-round ability.

Not only he can hit the ball hard, but he is also an exceptional fielder in the deep and nothing can go past him. While his bowling has been on a wane, Pollard’s experience of the format and his long association with the team makes him an integral member of the side. He is expected to lift the morale of the side and put them back on track when going gets tough.

MI posts video celebrating 150 matches of Kieron Pollard

Mumbai Indians on Thursday posted a video of the team celebrating the 150 matches of Kieron Pollard on Twitter. The video was captioned: “He plays with a lot of passion for the badge on his chest.”

While his teammates describe him as “match-winner”, Pollard said he is privileged to play for the Mumbai Indians since the beginning.

In the video, Pollard says: “Guys go into auctions and to different places, different teams. I have had the privilege of getting the opportunity of playing for Mumbai for 150 games. You know, thank God for that.”

He added: “I just try to go out each and every time and try to give my best.”

Mumbai Indians’ head coach Mahela Jayawardene said, “Polly has been playing for Mumbai Indians for a long period of time and he plays with a lot of passion for the badge on his chest.”

His teammate Hardik Pandya said: “I have told him that I expect nothing less than 200 from him. 150 may be fine for him, but I want 200. Two hundred is coming in the next two seasons.”
