Khambhat Riots: Anand DSP, Khambhat DYSP Replaced by Gujarat Govt After Communal Violence

Anand DSP Makarand Chauhan and Khambhat DYSP Reema Munshi have taken a heavy leave. While both these officers were on leave, communal violence took place in Khambhat. After the riot, Khambhat DYSP Reema Munshi immediately joined duty but Anand DSP did not return from the holidays. Due to which the Gujarat government has taken a big action and has replaced these two officers with immediate effect and has not given posting at any place so far.

Violence broke out after two factions clashed over the matter of playing cricket in Khambhat. While the Gujarat police was busy with the “Namaste Trump” event in Ahmedabad. Many houses and vehicles were set on fire during the violence. One was killed in the violence, many people including police personnel were injured. Khambhat town in Gujarat’s Anand district, where communal clashes broke out on Sunday, remained on the boil on the third consecutive day with a mob torching two roadside cabins and motorcycles on the day of shut down. Majority of schools, colleges and markets remained shut in the town since the morning.

According to the information, during the riot, Anand SP Makarand Chauhan was on long leave due to his father’s death. On the other hand Khambhat DYSP Reema Munshi was also on leave due to which both these officers have been replaced. Ajit Rajian, DCP of traffic in Ahmedabad city has been appointed as Anand SP, while DYSP Bharti Pandya of Ahmedabad Anti Corruption Bureau has been appointed as Khambhat DYSP.
