Kevadia in Gujarat to be developed as e-vehicle city: PM Modi

  • Green boost for area around Statue of Unity on World Environment Day

Vishal Mistry, Rajpipla: Soon, Kevadia in Narmada district will be known for more than just the Statue of Unity—it is all set to be developed as an electric vehicle city, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his World Environment Day address on Saturday.

It was Modi who had laid the foundation stone of the Statue of Unity when he was the chief minister of the state. Recently, the first green railway station in the country was constructed in Kevadia.

Going greener

Narmada district is known as the mini Kashmir of Narmada. Surrounded by dense forests, it has been a huge attraction for tourists. To ensure that the area remained green and pollution-free, then CM Modi had decided not to set up big industries there. In fact, he used to visit the place often.

Construction of the Statue of Unity has placed Narmada on the world map. While talking about the plan to develop Kevadia as an electric vehicle city, Modi said that only battery-operated buses, 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers would run its roads.  He added that necessary infrastructure would be set up in the area for this project.

Further in his address, the PM said that balance between development and environment is an important part in our culture, which we are turning into the strength of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
