The memorial of former DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi at Marina beach in Chennai turned into a wedding venue on Wednesday after a party worker got married there, media reports said. Wednesday was also the 97th birth anniversary of the founder of DMK. The wedding was attended by party president MK Stalin after he paid floral tributes to his late father, reports said.
It was the DMK chief who handed over the ‘mangalsutra’ to the bridegroom Ashok Kumar, a party worker. The marriage was held without any ritual, as per the beliefs of the party, and both the bride and groom wore masks and gloves, an agency report said.
A banner in the backdrop hailed the wedding as an event of “two hearts coming together on the occasion of Kalaignar’s 97th birth anniversary.”
Last year, AIADMK leader had held his son’s marriage at the samadhi of late Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, which is also on the Marina beach.
Former Union Minister TR Baalu, party Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi, and Stalin’s son and DMK youth wing leader Udhayanidhi paid floral tributes.
