Two more states in India—Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh—on Monday crossed the 1lakh-mark in coronavirus cases. Both, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, have reported more than 5,000 cases in the past 24 hours.
So far only three states in India have crossed the 1 lakh-mark in COVID-19 cases. These include Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. These three states are the worst-affected states in terms of coronavirus cases, while Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka occupied the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
COVID-19 status in Karnataka
Karnataka, which was appreciated for its efforts to contain the virus, on Monday, reported 5,324 cases. With the addition of the fresh cases, the state’s tally has jumped to 1,01,465 cases. State capital Bengaluru has reported 1,470 fresh cases taking the city’s tally to 46,943 cases.
Notably, 75 deaths have been reported in Karnataka in the past 24 hours that has taken the death toll to 1,953. The number of recoveries also increased by 1,847 during this period taking the total tally of those recovered to 37,685.
Out of the total cases in Karnataka, 61,819 are active cases. The first case of coronavirus in Karnataka was reported on March 8.
COVID-19 status in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh has reported 7,627 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the state’s tally to 1,02,349.
While the state touched 50,000 cases on July 20, the figure doubled within just eight days.
Andhra Pradesh has reported 49 fresh deaths in the past 24 hours. The fresh fatalities have resulted in the death toll touching 1,090.
The state government also informed that 3,234 patients have been discharged in the past 24 hours. The total tally of cases that have recovered after treatment stands at 49,559. Andhra Pradesh has 51,701 active cases.
India’s COVID-19 case count crosses 14 lakh
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 case count and the death toll are rising rapidly in India. According to the health ministry, 49,931 fresh cases and 708 have been reported across the country in the past 24 hours. The country’s case tally has crossed the 14.35 lakh-mark, whereas the death toll has jumped to 32,771.
