Vikas Dubey, the infamous history-sheeter in Uttar Pradesh, whose attempted arrest on Thursday night led to the death of 8 police personnel in Kanpur, has 60 cases in his name. Vikas Dubey is also known to have murdered a minister in the former Rajnath Singh government in UP.
In 2001, Vikas Dubey barged into a police station and gunned down Santosh Shukla, who was a minister in the Rajnath Singh-led UP government.
In 2000, Vikas Dubey was accused of killing Siddeshwar Pandey, an assistant manager at Tarachand Inter College, located in the Shivli police station area of Kanpur. The same year he was accused of conspiring in the murder case of Rambabu Yadav in Kanpur while being lodged in jail.
In 2004, Vikas Dubey was involved in the murder of cable businessman Dinesh Dubey. In 2018, Vikas Dubey carried out a deadly attack on his own cousin Anurag. During this time Vikas was in jail and while sitting inside a prison, he hatched the conspiracy. The victim’s wife had named Vikas and four others in the case.
In 2002, Vikas Dubey grabbed huge tracts of land by illegal occupation and amassed a massive number of properties through such means. During this time, Vikas Dubey dominated Kanpur city along with Bilhaur, Shivrajpur, Rinyan and Choubepur areas.
Choubepur is the area in which Thursday’s encounter took place in which Vikas Dubey and his men gunned down 8 police personnel and left 7 others injured.
Sources say in Uttar Pradesh, history-sheeter Vikas Dubey has a hold over multiple political parties across lines. Vikas Dubey had also won the election of nagar panchayat in Shivrajpur while being lodged in jail.
Uttar Pradesh DGP HC Awasthi said that a case of attempt to murder was filed against Vikas Dubey a few days ago and the Kanpur Police team went to arrest Vikas Dubey on Thursday night. As soon as the force reached outside the village in Bikaru, they found several JCB earthmoving vehicles parked on the road, blocking their way. The police team was forced to get down from their vehicle.
Just then the miscreants started firing on the police team. The police fired in retaliation but the criminals had the advantage of being located on rooftops.
