Known for her controversies, actor Kangana Ranaut on Monday filed a counter-complaint against lyricist Javed Akhtar in a Mumbai court alleging extortion and violation of privacy.
The actor’s complaint was in retaliation to a defamation suit filed by Javed Akhtar against the Manikarnika actor for dragging his name into a television discussion in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Ranaut has also alleged that the lyricist threatened her and that she did not trust the judge at the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court in Andheri. Notably, the actor and the lyricist came face-to-face during the hearing of the defamation suit filed by Akhtar on Monday. Kangana appeared before the court after she was warned of a warrant if she fails to remain present before the court.
What Kangana Ranaut said
Kangana’s lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee, argued before the court, “I am making a categorical statement. I have lost faith in this Court. Without giving reasons in a bailable compoundable, non-cognizable offence, the court has been issuing threats to her that arrest warrants will be issued against her.”
Her lawyer said that the court has been issuing summons to her in a case where she should not have been called at all.
On these very grounds, Kangana has filed an application before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) for the transfer of the defamation complaint filed by Javed Akhtar to any other Magistrate as well.
Siddiquee added that Ranaut had filed a counter-complaint under sections 383, 384, 387, 503, 506 of the Indian Penal Code against Akhtar accusing him of extortion and criminal intimidation.
Advocates Jay Bharadwaj and Priya Arora, appearing for Javed Akhtar, opposed the adjournment. However, the Court adjourned the matter to November 15, 2021, to enable Akhtar to peruse and respond to the application and complaint.
