In what could add to the trouble of actor Kangana Ranaut who is fighting a bitter battle with the Maharashtra government, a Mumbai court has directed the city police to register an FIR against the actor and her sister Rangoli Chandel. The court directed the police to register the FIR against the sister duo for allegedly trying to create communal tension through provocative tweets.
Bandra metropolitan magistrate Jaydeo Ghule issued the direction to Mumbai police in connection with a complaint filed by a casting director Sahil Ashrafali Sayyed. The complainant had sought the court’s direction for registration of FIR for promoting enmity, malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings and sedition.
“The allegations are based upon the comments made on electronic media – Twitter and interviews – and a thorough investigation by an expert is necessary,” the court said. Thereafter, it directed the police station concerned to “initiate necessary action and investigation against the actor and her sister under relevant provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The complainant has alleged that Kangana Ranaut and her sister are creating divisions between Hindu and Muslim artists. He has also alleged that the “Queen” actor brings religion into almost all her tweets.
Sahil cited the lynching of Hindu saints at Maharashtra’s Palghar as an example and highlighted a tweet by Kangana calling the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as “BABUR SENA” and another claiming that she was the first person to make a movie on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Rani Laxmi bai of Jhansi.
