Kailash Vijayvargiya allotted bulletproof car by Centre after Bengal attack

BJP’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has been provided with a bulletproof car by the Union government. The development comes after Kailash Vijayvargiya and BJP national president JP Nadda’s convoy was attacked in West Bengal last week.

Vijayvargiya, who is looking after the BJP’s campaign in the run-up for the West Bengal Assembly election, arrived in Kolkata on Monday. The BJP leader is supposed to take part in a programme at Mathurapur in South 24 Parganas. Kailash Vijayvargiya, while interacting with the media, said as per the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, he has been provided with a bulletproof vehicle.

Notably, the Assembly election is scheduled in West Bengal in April-May of 2021.

Kailash Vijayvargiya’s convoy attacked

The convoy of BJP leaders JP Nadda and Kailash Vijayvargiya was attacked on December 10 in West Bengal. The vehicles of the BJP leaders were targeted when they were on their way to Diamond Harbour for meeting BJP workers ahead of the Assembly polls.

A video in this regard was shared by Kailash Vijayvargiya on his Twitter account. In the video, protestors were seen raising slogans against the BJP and pelting stones on the convoy as the police struggled to control the crowd. The video shows the windshield and side windows of Vijayvargiya’s car cracking due to the stone-pelting.

Earlier, Dilip Ghosh had alleged a security lapse at a BJP event attended by JP Nadda on Wednesday last week, following which the Union home ministry sought a report from the West Bengal government over the concerns raised by the BJP leaders.

BJP criticised TMC

As the convoys of JP Nadda and Vijayvargiya were headed towards Diamond Harbour on December 10, protesters gathered on the streets and attempted to block the road to stop Nadda’s convoy from passing. Protesters also pelted stones at the vehicle. Nadda was on his way to South 24 Parganas to address a meeting of BJP workers.

Following the attack, police managed to escort the vehicles out of the area. Dilip Ghosh said, “On our way to Diamond Harbour, TMC supporters blocked the road and pelted Naddaji’s vehicle and other cars in the convoy with stones. This only shows the true colour of the TMC.”

Meanwhile, Kailash Vijayvargiya had condemned the attack, whereas Nadda had said that Maa Durga’s grace saved him. The BJP has been demanding that the Assembly polls are held amid the presence of Central forces.
