President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday signed a warrant appointing Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the next Chief Justice of India(CJI). Bobde will take the oath on November 18 and Gogoi will retire from the his post on November 17, just a day before Justice Bobde will take the oath.
After giving a long stint of 8 years as SC Judge, Justice Bobde will become the 47th CJI and it is expected to resign the office on 23rd of April 2021.The Top dignitaries including the Senior Minister from the Modi Cabinet and Senior Judges from the Top Court will attend the oath-taking ceremony.There will be some restrictions on the people who are invited to attend the ceremony because of the security reasons. The guest should have the clearance from the president office.
Justice Bobde probed the allegations of sexual harassment against CJI Gogoi. He was also on the five-judge bench hearing the Ayodhya land dispute that just concluded hearings and is expected to announce the verdict before CJI Gogoi retirement.
