Today is a big day for the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP has been in power for 6 years, will get a new party president today. BJP working president JP Nadda appears set to be elected as its next national president on January 20, succeeding Amit Shah, with the party on Friday announcing the schedule for election to its top organizational post. Several prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah will be present.

Earlier, JP Nadda was made the National Executive Chairman of BJP. The decision was taken in BJP parliamentary board. JP Nadda has won 62 out of 80 seats in UP for Modi and Shah and BJP, can now be given full command of the party from executive chairman. Nadda was made in-charge of Uttar Pradesh before 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After the SP-BSP was formed in UP, political pundits raised questions about BJP’s existence. However Nadda secured 62 out of 80 seats for the BJP.

Nadda started his politics with student politics. He has decades of experience in the organization as well as is considered very close to the Sangh. It is believed that by noon the name of new president will also be announced. PM Narendra Modi will reach the BJP Head Quarter at around 4 pm and will also address the workers.

In BJP, there has been a tradition of president being elected by consensus and without any contest and it is less likely that this time too something will be different from that tradition. With the election of new president, the current president Amit Shah’s tenure of more than five and a half years will also end. During which BJP expanded its base across the country. Shah’s tenure was the best period for BJP in terms of elections, although the party suffered setbacks in some state assembly elections.

After Shah became the Home Minister in the second term of Modi government, the BJP started exercise of choosing his successor as there has been a tradition of ‘one person, one post’ in the party. Nadda was appointed acting president in July last year. This was an indication that BJP leaders from Himachal Pradesh are likely choice for the top post of organization. Nadda was in charge of the BJP’s election campaign in the politically important state of Uttar Pradesh in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where the party faced a tough challenge from grand alliance of SP and BSP.
