Jharkhand police arrest Seema Patra for torturing domestic help

Ranchi: Suspended BJP leader Seema Patra, who was booked for torturing her Adivasi domestic help Sunita over eight years, was arrested by Jharkhand police on Wednesday. She has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

According to reports, it was Seema Patra’s son Ayushman who sought help for Sunita  after failing to stop his mother from harassing her.

Ayushman had reportedly informed his friend, a government officer, and requested for help.

Following the tip-off, a police team rescued Sunita from Patra’s residence in Ashoknagar in Ranchi.

Sunita was admitted to RIMS Ranchi where she is undergoing treatment. Her statement was recorded before the magistrate on Tuesday.

She has accused Patra of extreme torture, including beating her with iron rod and forcing her to lick urine.

“BJP has zero tolerance towards atrocities against SC and ST communities. When the incident regarding the brutality of a maid working in BJP leader Seema Patra’s house came into the public domain, the BJP state president immediately suspended her,” the Jharkhand BJP said.

“She was also served a show-cause regarding termination of the primary membership from the party. A committee has also been formed to inquire. After the committee submits its report, strictest action will be taken against them. In BJP, there’s no place for such people,” it added, as per news agency ANI.
