Polling for the fifth and final phase of the Jharkhand assembly elections in 16 constituencies began on Friday. The fate of 237 candidates, including two ministers and a former CM, will be decided in this final phase. The polling that began at 7 am in all assembly segments will end at 3 pm in five constituencies of Borio (ST), Barhait (ST), Litipara (ST), Maheshpur (ST) and Sikaripara (ST). Voters in the rest of the assembly segments can exercise their franchise till 5 pm.
Jharkhand’s Upper Chief Electoral Officer Shailesh Kumar Chaurasia said on Thursday, “Voting will start from 7 am to 5 pm for the seats where polling is being held in this final phase are Rajmahal, Pakur, Nalla, Jamtara, Dumka (ST), Jama (ST), Jarmundi, Sarath, Poreyahat, Godda and Mahagama.” It said that in Naxalite dominant seats like Boria, Burhat, Litipada, Maheshpur and Shikaripada from 7am to 3am Voting will continue till then.
Voting for the final and fifth phase was 12% by 9am. Under this phase, voting quietly began at 6am on Friday morning for the 16 assembly seats in Santhal area. Thus, during the voting this news is being written, so far no violent incident has occurred.
