Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Friday said the government has decided to postpone the JEE Main and NEET 2020 examinations. The move comes following recommendations by a panel of experts on the matter after the minister sought a report from them on the feasibility of conducting the exams. The panel was headed by director general of National Testing Agency (NTA) Vineet Joshi.
Now, the JEE Main examination will be held between September 1 to 6, JEE advanced exam on September 27 and NEET examination on September 13. JEE Main exam was scheduled to be held from July 18 to 23, while NEET 2020 was scheduled for July 26. Students had been demanding postponement of exams in view of the rising COVID-19 cases across the country.
Media reports said the NTA was looking at building capacity for holding online exams which candidates can appear for from their homes. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had earlier cancelled some board exam papers scheduled from July 1 to 15 after a group of parents moved the Supreme Court raising concerns about the same.
