The Centre on Tuesday announced that the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) Mains will be held from July 18 to 23. All the JEE exams were postponed due to the Covi19 pandemic and the resultant lockdown. The JEE Advanced exams will be held in August although the exact dates will be announced later while the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) , a medical entrance exam, will be held on July 25.
Over 15 lakh students have registered for the NEET exams while 9 lakh were expected to appear for the JEE Mains. The NEET is conducted for admission to medical colleges across the country while the JEE Mains is held for the entry to engineering colleges barring the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs). A student needs to clear the JEE Mains before he can appear for the JEE Advanced examinations. Students have also been given the option of changing their Centres for examination as several of them had moved back to their hometown before the lockdown.
Meanwhile, HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Tuesday said that the decision on the remaining exams of CBSE class 10 and 12 will be announced in a day or two. Several entrance exams were cancelled following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. The exams for Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries were among those that were postponed.
