Samajwadi Party MP and actor Jaya Bachchan has hit back at BJP MP Ravi Kishan for his remarks in the Lok Sabha on drug addiction in the film industry. Jaya Bachchan also attacked actor Kangana Ranaut for her remarks against Bollywood without naming her.
The veteran actor said that statements against the film industry are being made to divert peoples’ attention from the real issues of economic downfall and unemployment. She said the entertainment industry gives direct employment to 5 lakh people daily and indirect employment to 5 million people.
Jaya Bachchan attacks Ravi Kishan
The veteran actor spoke on the issue in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. She said: “Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the whole industry… I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday one of our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke against the film industry. Jis thaali me khaate hain, usi me chched karte hain.”
Jaya Bachhan attacks Kangana
Bachchan also attacked Kangana Ranaut without naming her. She said it was a shame that people who earned their living from the industry are now calling it a “gutter”.
Kangana Ranaut had called Bollywood a ‘gutter’. She had even asked PM Modi to clean it under the Swachh Bharat Mission in a tweet on August 26.
Kangana wrote, “If Narcotics Control Bureau enters Bullywood, many A listers will be behind bars. If blood tests are conducted, many shocking revelations will happen. Hope @PMOIndia under Swachh Bharat mission cleanses the gutter called Bullywood.”
Kangana hits back
Following Jaya Bachchan’s criticism, Kangana Ranaut has hit back at the senior actor. Kangana tweeted: “Jaya ji would you say the same thing if in my place it was your daughter Shweta beaten, drugged and molested as a teenager, would you say the same thing if Abhishek complained about bullying and harassment constantly and found hanging one day? Show compassion for us also.”
Ravi Kishen reacts to Jaya Bachchan’s criticism
Reacting to the criticism by Jaya Bachchan, Ravi Kishan said: “I expected Jaya-ji to support what I said. Not everyone in the industry consumes drugs but those who do are part of a plan to finish the world’s largest film industry. When Jaya-ji and I joined, the situation was not like this, but now, we need to protect the industry.”
The BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh had in the Lok Sabha on Monday raised the drugs-related allegations against the film industry. He alleged a “conspiracy” by Pakistan and China to destroy the country’s younger citizens.
“Drug addiction is in the film industry too. Several people have been apprehended. The NCB has been doing very good work. I urge the central government to take strict action against the culprits soon. Give them a befitting punishment and bring an end to this conspiracy by neighbouring countries,” Ravi Kishan had said.
