New Delhi: BJP leader and Supreme Court lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay has been granted bail by the Delhi High Court in a case of inflammatory sloganeering at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday. The said protest was against colonial-era rules and for demanding a uniform civil code.

An FIR had been registered at Connaught Place against a group for allegedly raising inflammatory slogans during a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday.

The Delhi police claimed that the organizers did not have permission for the event.

Subsequently, Ashwini Upadhyay, who was said to be one of the organizers, and five others were arrested by Delhi police.

A few thousand people had gathered for the protests. According to those in the organizing committee, if any slogans were raised, they would have been by a few in the crowd of a few thousands. They said they did not associate with such sloganeering.

The Delhi police had objected to the bail petition arguing that they could go back to society and create law-and-order problem. The police had sought remand of two of the accused and judicial custody for the remaining four.
