Ahmedabad: The ‘Jal Yatra’ was held at the banks of Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad Thursday morning as part of the 144th Jagannath Rath Yatra. Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja offered prayers along with Mahant Dilipdasji Maharaj of the Jagannath temple. Religious and social leaders also took part in the rituals.
The jal yatra is taken out every year prior to the rath yatra. On the occasion, Patel said that the decisions related to the rath yatra would be taken depending on the Covid situation at that time.
Free Covid-19 vaccination for all as well as telemedicine services for police personnel were started in the temple precinct. Patel and Jadeja reviewed the services after completing the jal yatra prayers.
While addressing the media later, Patel said that the state is committed to holding the rath yatra in safe and peaceful environment.
“The state government is committed to ensure that the rath yatra is taken out amid communal harmony and peaceful environment,” he said
He lauded the temple’s efforts to boost the mega vaccination drive by opening its precinct to allow vaccination of people for free.
