Senior Gujarati journalist Isudan Gadhvi joins AAP

  • On one-day visit to Ahmedabad, AAP convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announces party’s decision to contest on all seats in 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections

Ahmedabad: After days of intense buzz, senior journalist Isudan Gadhvi officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Ahmedabad on Monday. Gadhvi joined the party in presence of party convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who arrived in the city on a one-day visit to inaugurate the party headquarters here and meet party workers.

Gadhvi met Kejriwal at Circuit House in Ahmedabad where he was officially welcomed into the party folds. Gadhvi, a popular face in Gujarat, is expected to add to the party’s local reach in Gujarat.

“During my 15-16 years of career as a journalist, I had never imagined that I would be standing here one day. I never had any political ambitions. I have only served people as a journalist,” said Gadhvi.

“Every person in Gujarat can relate with Isudan. People believe he will be their voice. For past 27 years, just one party has been ruling Gujarat,” said Kejriwal, commenting on Gadhvi’s entry in AAP. He added, “People of Gujarat, who had been left without an option, have now found one… Now, Gujarat will see change.”

Kejriwal later inaugurated the party’s state headquarters behind Mount Carmel School on Ashram Road. Gadhvi was a part of this meeting. He would be leaving for Delhi on Monday itself.

During the day, Kejriwal offered prayers at the Shrinathji Temple at Vallabh Sadan. At a press conference, he announced the party’s plans for the 2022 Assembly elections in Gujarat.  “AAP will field its candidates on all Assembly seats,” he said.

In a major victory for AAP in Gujarat, the party had won 27 out of total 120 seats in the local civic body elections in Surat earlier this year.
