The who’s who of Gujarati film industry came together to bid adieu to Gujarati film superstar Naresh Kanodiya. The 77-year-old succumbed to COVID-19 while being under treatment at the UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad.
A sea of fans and admirers also surrounded the ambulance that brought his body to the crematorium in Gandhinagar.
Close to 2,000 people came to pay their respect to the actor. The ambulance carrying his body was stationed outside his home in Gandhinagar for people to pay their last respects.
Singer Arvind Vegda, Roma Manek and Mamta Soni were among those who came to pay their respects. He was cremated at the crematorium in Gandhiangar’s sector 30.
Naresh Kanodiya is considered to be the Amitabh Bachchan of the Gujarati film industry.
Naresh’s brother Mahesh who passed away two days ago was a well-known music director and singer. The brothers had come together to give music in several films.
Naresh Kanodiya had also been an active politician and had been an MLA with the BJP. His brother Mahesh was an MP for the BJP five times.
Naresh Kanodiya’s career
Naresh Kanodiya, 77, was part of over 125 Gujarati films. Some of his very popular movies include Hiran ne kaanthe, Meru Malan, Dholamaru, Palvade Bandhi Preet among others. He also shared musical credits with his brother Mahesh in several movies.
He began his career with the movie Veline Aavya Phool. His pairing with actress Snehlata was very popular with the audience.
He later married Reema and had a son Hitu Kanodiya. Hitu is also a Gujarati movie actor. Hitu is married to Gujarati actress Mona Thiba. The couple has a son. Kanodiya senior lived with his family in Gandhinagar.
