India’s COVID-19 tally nearing 2 lakh, death toll at 5,598

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed that 8,171 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Tuesday. With the addition of the fresh cases, the total tally of COVID-19 cases in the country has now increased to 1,98,706.

During this period, 204 more deaths have been reported in the country due to COVID-19 and now, the cumulative death toll due to the deadly virus stands at 5,598 cases.

Out of the 1.98 lakh cases, 97,581 are active cases and 95,526 people have been cured and discharged, the health ministry data suggests.

In India, Maharashtra continues to remain the most-affected state with over 70,000 COVID-19 cases being reported so far. A total of 2,362 people have died in Maharashtra so far.

Tamil Nadu is the second most-affected state after Maharashtra with 23,495 coronavirus cases and 184 deaths. Delhi ranks third with 20,834 coronavirus cases followed by Gujarat with 17,200 cases and 1063 deaths.

Over the past few days, India has consistently recorded over 8,000 COVID-19 cases every day, taking the total tally to nearly 2 lakh.

With the rapid increase in the number of coronavirus cases, India has now jumped to the seventh spot on the list of countries most affected by the highly contagious virus. India has US, Brazil, Russia, United Kingdom, Spain, and Italy ahead with more coronavirus cases and deaths.

Across the world, coronavirus cases have gone past 62.66 lakh while the death toll is over 3.75 lakh.
