India recorded 28,498 cases in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 tally in the country past the nine lakh mark on Tuesday. This was the eleventh consecutive day when the COVID-19 cases in the country increased by more than 22,000. It took India just a week to add two lakh more cases.
The country reported 553 new deaths taking the total toll to 23,727. The total cases in the country stands at 9,06,752 of which 3,11,565 are active cases.
Maharashtra is the worst affected with 2,60,924 COVID-19 cases and 10,482 fatalities followed by Tamil Nadu that has 1,42,798 cases and 2,032 deaths. Delhi has 1,13,740 cases and 3,411 deaths. The country tested 2,86,247 samples in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana have added the highest number of cases to India’s tally. Delhi, in a first, reported less than 1,000 new infections, a first since June 1. India is the third worst hit country in the world for number of COVID-19 cases, next only to US and Brazil.
