India’s COVID-19 case count crosses 90k, death toll rises to 2,872

In the sharpest 24-hour increase in numbers, India has recorded 4,987 fresh coronavirus cases, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday, adding the tally has crossed the 90,000-mark.

Over the last 24 hours, the country witnessed 120 deaths, taking the total fatalities due to the deadly infection to 2,872, the ministry said. Of the total 90,927 cases, 53946 are active, 34109 cured/discharged/migrated, 2872 have died, it said.

Maharashtra with 30,706 cases remains the worst-hit state in India with maximum infections and deaths. Gujarat is trailing Maharashtra with 10,988 cases and 625 deaths. The western state of Gujarat is followed by Tamil Nadu with 10,585 cases, whereas Delhi’s COVID-19 tally is at 9,333.
