Power Minister RK Singh on Friday said that India will not import power equipment from China and Pakistan and that state discoms should also not give orders for supply of equipment to Chinese firms. In a virtual conference Singh said the country manufactures everything that the power sector needs.
“India imported Rs 71,000 crore worth power equipment including Rs 21,000 crore from China,” Singh said at a conference of the state energy ministers. He also said that the government will not give permission for import from Prior Reference countries. “There could be malware or trojan horse in those (imports from China) which they can activate remotely (to cripple our power systems),” Singh said.
He said it was sad that the country was importing tower elements, conductors, transformers and parts of meters when they are available in India too. He told the state ministers, “Your discoms order equipment from Chinese companies. We request you not to order from Chinese companies.” He said under inspection, the government can deny import of equipment.
