The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed that 20,903 fresh cases of novel coronavirus have been reported in India in the past 24 hours ending Friday morning. It is the biggest single-day spike in cases reported in the country that has taken the total COVID-19 case count to 6,25,544.
Also, 379 deaths have been reported in the country during this period that has taken the death toll beyond the 18,000-mark. So far, 18,213 people have succumbed to the deadly virus in the country.
Out of the 6.25 lakh cases, India now has 2,27,439 active cases and 3,79,892 cured or discharged cases, according to the ministry’s data.
Maharashtra, which is the worst-affected state in the country, now has over 1,86,000 coronavirus cases with 8,178 people dead.
Tamil Nadu, which is the second worst-affected state after Maharashtra, has recorded 98,000 coronavirus cases while the death toll is at 1,321.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said the total number of samples tested in India up to July 2 is 92,97,749 of which 2,41,576 samples were tested on Thursday.
