India recorded 11,929 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours taking the total number of cases in the country to 3,20,922. This is the highest single day rise in infections reported so far. The country also saw 311 new deaths due to the disease taking the total COVID-19 fatalities to 9,195.
So far 55 lakh samples were tested for COVID-19 of which 1.43 lakh was tested in the last 24 hours. 1,62,378 patients have recovered from the disease while the number of active cases stand at 1,49,348.
Across the country, Maharashtra leads in the number of cases with 1,04,568 COVID-19 cases so far, followed by Tamil Nadu at 42,687, Delhi at 38,958 and Gujarat at 23,038.
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with senior ministers and officials on the steps being taken to contain the pandemic in areas where the concentration of cases is extremely high. The meeting, among other things, discussed increasing COVID-19 testing and the number of beds to handle the rise in the number of cases every day.
