India records 9,987 new COVID-19 cases, tally crosses 2.66 lakh; 266 fatalities recorded in 24 hrs

India recorded 9,987 new COVID-19 cases taking the total tally to over 2.66 lakh in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra had the highest number of cases recorded in a single day followed by Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and West Bengal. India recorded a total of 266 fatalities taking the total death toll 7,466.

The number of active patients in the country stands at 1,29,917 with 48% of those infected having been successfully cured. Maharashtra continues to have the highest number of cases at 88,528 with Mumbai alone accounting for over 50,000 coronavirus cases. As many as 1,311 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours in the city alone. In all, the state has recorded over 3000 fatalities due to the disease so far

Tamil Nadu that ranks second in number of cases recorded more than 1,500 positive cases in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 tally to 33,229.

Delhi saw 1,007 fresh cases in the last 24 hours taking the total to 29,943. The death toll in the state stands at 824 since the pandemic began.
