India records 7,830 new Covid cases, 16 death, active infections cross 40,000-mark

India has recorded 7,830 new Covid-19 cases, while the number of active cases has reached to 40,215, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. While 16 deaths have been registered in 24 hours. The country recorded a single-day jump of 7,946 Covid-19 cases on September 1 last year.

Meanwhile, 4,692 patients have recovered from the infection in last 24 hours, with this a total of 4,42,04,771 people have recuperated so far with the recovery rate rising to 98.72%.

Meanwhile, 16 new fatalities, have been reported in 24 hours in the country. The death count due to the contagious disease has now increased to 5,31,016. Out of total 16 deaths two each in Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, and one each in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were reported. Five virus-related deaths were reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

Delhi reports 980 new Covid cases

Delhi reported 980 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday according to data shared by the city government’s health department. According to PTI, the national capital also reported two more Covid deaths, the bulletin said. However, it added that Covid-19 was not the primary cause of death in one of the fatalities while the case sheet on the other death was awaited.

Maharashtra logs 919 new cases, one death

Maharashtra recorded a sharp rise in new Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra logged 919 new cases and one death in last 24 hours. The number of active cases have increased to 4,875 in the state. Mumbai recorded 242 new cases, whereas 110 patients are undergoing the treatment of covid-19. Active cases in Mumbai is reached to 1,478 and the positivity rate is at 13.48 per cent.

Gujarat registers 364 new cases, 1 death

Gujarat recorded 364 new cases of Covid-19 and one death on Tuesday. While 348 patients have recovered from the infection. Ahmedabad, was at the top in the tally with 152 cases, whereas Baroda 40, Surat and Mehsana 36 each, Patan 15, Rajkot and Valsad 11 each, Gandhinagar, Anand and Bharuch 9 each and Saba kantha reported 7 new cases of Covid – 19. One fatality due to Covid has been reported from Ahmedabad. Currently, there are total 1947 active cases in the state, out of which 3 patients are being treated on ventilator.

1,774 cases of the XBB1.16 variant

1,774 cases of the XBB1.16 variant have been found across 22 states and Union Territories. Over 230 of the infected patients have contracted XBB1.16.1, the mutated sub-variant of Omicron, according to the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) data.

According to ministry’s website 220.66 crore doses of vaccines have been administered in the country under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
