COVID1-9 cases in India touched 10,38,716 on Saturday as the country recorded 34,884 new cases in the last 24 hours. Of the total number of cases, 3,58,692 are active cases.
This is a record single-day surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. India crossed the 10 lakh mark within three days of it touching the 9 lakh figure.
The health ministry said 671 deaths were recorded during the same time taking the toll to 26,273.
This is the seventh consecutive day of the country recording over 28,000 cases.
Maharashtra continues to lead in the number of cases with 2,92,589 COVID-19 cases and 11,452 fatalities.
Tamil Nadu has 1,60,907 cases and 2,315 deaths while Delhi has 1,20,107 cases and 3,571 deaths.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said 3,61,024 samples were tested on Friday.
Apart from the above mentioned three states Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, and Odisha have reported a surge in COVID-19 cases.
India has the third-highest number of cases after the United States and Brazil.
Across the world, 14 million people have been infected due to the disease and killed over 5 lakh.
