India again reports biggest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases, death toll jumps to 5,394

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed that India has recorded the biggest single-day spike in coronavirus cases, with 8,392 cases reported in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Monday.

Also, 230 deaths were reported during this period that pushed the death toll due to COVID-19 in the country to 5,394.

According to the latest figures by the ministry, India has so far recorded a total number of 1,90,535 coronavirus cases. These include 93,322 active cases, while 91,819 people have recovered from the infection and discharged.

On Sunday, India had registered its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with 8,380 new infections in 24 hours, which took the country’s tally to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164.

India became the world’s seventh worst-hit country in terms of coronavirus cases, according to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) COVID-19 tracker. The US is the worst-affected country in terms of cases.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state with 67,655 cases followed by Tamil Nadu with 22,333 cases. Delhi occupies the third position with 19,844 cases, whereas Gujarat has reported 16,779 cases.
