The health ministry on Sunday informed that 30,948 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 3.24 crore.
The ministry also informed that over 58.14 crore COVID-19 jabs have been administered so far. Of it, over 52.24 lakh people were vaccinated on Saturday.
India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.
Over 4.34 lakh deaths due to COVID-19
Also, 403 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 4,34,367. Previously, the death toll had touched 4,529-mark on May 19.
Over 3.16 crore patients recovered
Of the over 3.24 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 3.53 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 1.09 per cent of the total caseload. Over 3.16 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.
Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 97.57 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. It also dipped on February 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28 and is dipping throughout the month of March, April and May. However, the recovery rate again started improving from May 10 onwards.
Over 50.62 crore samples tested
So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 50.62 crore samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, over 22.29 lakh samples—the highest in a day—were tested on August 13. Over 22.17 lakh samples were tested on May 25. Notably, it was the second-highest number of samples tested in a day. The third-highest number of over 21.59 lakh samples was tested on June 2. Over 15.85 lakh tests were done on August 21.
403 deaths in a day
Of the 403 deaths reported in a day, 145 deaths are from Maharashtra, 23 from Tamil Nadu and 18 from Karnataka. Thirteen deaths have been reported from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh reported one death and West Bengal reported 10 deaths. Gujarat reported one death whereas Madhya Pradesh reported no death. Delhi reported no death while Punjab reported one death.
Sixty-six deaths have been registered from Odisha while Rajasthan and Bihar reported no death. No death was reported from Jammu and Kashmir whereas Telangana reported two deaths.
Fifteen fatalities have been reported from Assam. Uttarakhand reported one death whereas Jharkhand reported no death. Puducherry reported two deaths and 83 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
