The case of a child in Gurdaspur, Punjab who has been living in an isolation ward with his Covid19 infected parents for almost a fortnight but has tested negative for the disease has stumped doctors at the hospital.
The child, who is in the Civil Hospital in the district, had returned with his parents and relatives from Hazur Saheb area. Apart from his parents, four of his relatives had also tested positive. The officials wanted to separate the child from the parents, but the latter refused and hence the child stayed with them. Later on two consecutive tests of the child have come negative.
Reports said the child used to sleep with his parents and also share food with them while in the isolation ward of the hospital. He lived in an isolation ward with 10 other such cases and yet has constantly tested negative. The child has always been wearing a mask since he was in the ward, media reports quoted the doctors as saying. Doctors believe that his immunity could perhaps throw some light on why some contract the disease and others don’t. Punjab has recorded close to 2000 cases of the disease so far. Punjab was among the states that had asked for extension of lockdown but with some caveats.
