The southwest monsoon has finally arrived in Kerala. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday that the southwest monsoon has made its onset in Kerala.
IMD had earlier predicted that the southwest monsoon will make an onset over Kerala on June 1 with the formation of a cyclonic circulation.
IMD director general Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Monday, “The southwest monsoon has made an onset over Kerala.”
A cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has escalated the progress of monsoon in India this year. IMD has predicted that India will receive a normal monsoon season this year.
Private weather forecaster Skymet had confirmed on May 30 that monsoon has already made its onset in Kerala. The four-month monsoon season from June to September accounts for 75 per cent of rainfall in the country.
