Two labourers, who were among the 200 detained after a stone pelting incident near IIM Ahmedabad on Monday, have tested positive for Covid19. As per the guidelines, 50 of those arrested in connection with the case were sent for Covid19 test, before they could be presented before a judge.
The two who have tested positive are under treatment in a quarantine facility. Sources in the know said that several of those arrested and detained are yet to be tested. The two who tested positive were with several other labourers and so it has increased the prospect of others being infected as well.
On Monday a group of labourers had gathered near the IIM Ahmedabad road and began pelting stones on the passersby and police who had reached the spot. They were demanding that they be sent home. After the incident, the cops had also visited the labour colony near IIM Ahmedabad and provided them with food. Clashes between migrants and cops have been reported form several parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, as the labourers unable to fend for themselves struggle to get home.
