New Delhi: Income tax assessees will have to file their I-T returns by the deadline of July 31. According to reports, the government has no plan to extend the deadline this time.
Last year, the deadline had been extended because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, revenue secretary Tarun Bajaj has indicated that the government may not extend the deadline this time as it expects most returns to be filed by then.
“People thought the routine now is that dates will be extended. So they were a little slow in filling the returns initially but now on a daily basis, we are getting between 15 lakhs to 18 lakh returns. This will slightly go up to 25 lakh to 30 lakh returns,” PTI quoted him as saying.
