Himanshu Pandya has been given a second term as the vice-chancellor of Gujarat University. The Gujarat government on Tuesday made an announcement to this regard appointing Panday as the vice-chancellor. Pandya had stepped down as vice-chancellor after his term ended on May 15. But Pandya was being considered for a second stint and the state government had in the meantime appointed Jagdish Bhavsar as the pro vice-chancellor after the appointment got delayed. His new stint is for three years and he is likely to take charge tomorrow.
A search committee to look for a new vice-chancellor had been formed three months ago but the entire process was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant lockdown. Pandya first became the vice-chancellor on May 16, 2017. Although he is closely associated with the ruling BJP his candidature was apparently opposed by the Saffron party’s student wing ABVP.
