The Gujarat Paanmasala Shop Owners Association has decided that from Saturday onwards all paan shops in the state will only provide take-home service.
The decision comes after the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) decided to fine paan shop owners Rs10,000 if their patrons were found spitting in and around the shop.
The Association said that from Saturday onwards it will not be providing paan to customers to be consumed at the shop.
It should be noted that it is very common for customers to seek paan and consume it while at the shop itself.
The Gujarat Paanmasala Shop Owners Association said they planned to support the government in its move to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state. But, at the same time, said the government should also think of reducing the fine.
It also questioned the disproportionate targeting of paan shop owners in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat when it came to charging them a penalty for COVID-19 violation norms.
