Hardik Patel’s political future remains uncertain as he blames Congress for not giving him work

After the elections of six municipal corporations of Gujarat, now the voting for municipalities, taluka and district panchayats are scheduled on Sunday.

The BJP is working on its pre-decided strategy to achieve success in the second phase of the civic elections after registering a spectacular victory in the municipal corporation elections. At the same time, the Congress is once again entangled in an internal fight.

The in-charge president of Gujarat Congress, Hardik Patel, meanwhile, has accused his party of not providing any responsibility to him. Some people are of the view that if Hardik Patel was given some concrete responsibility for the civic elections, the Congress’ winning tally could have been much better.

While Hardik Patel has time and again said that he is ready to work for the party, the Congress it seems is in no mood to arrest its decline in the state.

What Hardik Patel said

Hardik Patel said, “When I joined the Congress, I felt that the party would use me properly, but the Congress high command has failed.”

“You tell me, you have to travel 500 km a day or call 25 meetings. I am constantly telling the party to give me some work. “

Speaking to The Indian Express, Patel added that he has addressed 27 poll meetings so far and none of them were organised by the party. He said all the poll meetings were organised by him.

Hardik Patel said that the party had asked him to join a rally on February 19. But his week-long programme was already set, so he refused to attend the rally.

Congress’ poll debacle

While the century-old party secured only four seats in Rajkot, it was decimated to a big zero in Surat by the Aam Aadmi Party.

In fact, Congress supporters were so miffed with the party leadership that they burnt the effigy of local leaders who were responsible for the political drubbing. Even if Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) results are taken into consideration, Congress has performed much worse than its performance in the previous election in 2015.

On Sunday, there will be voting for 31 district panchayats, 231 taluka panchayats and 81 municipalities in Gujarat.

The PAAS factor

The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) with which Hardik has a past association played an important role in the fall of Congress in the civic elections.

The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti had announced its support to the Aam Aadmi Party after a dispute with Congress over ticket distribution.  The result was that the Aam Aadmi Party decimated Congress to a big zero in Surat Municipal Corporation. Now, Alpesh Kathiria is working hard in Surat to strengthen AAP.
