Gujarat has reported 92 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 12-hours ending at 10 am on Friday taking the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 1,021 in the state.
After three more deaths were reported from Gujarat on Thursday, two fresh deaths were again reported on Friday that pushed the state’s death toll due to COVID-19 to 38. Out of the two deaths in the state, one death has been reported each from Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
A 31-year-old man died in Vadodara’s SSG Hospital and a 55-year-old man succumbed to the deadly virus at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Both the deceased were suffering from hypertension.
Out of the 92 new cases, 45 cases are of Ahmedabad alone, whereas Surat reported 14 fresh cases and Vadodara reported nine fresh cases. Bharuch has reported eight more cases, whereas Narmada reported five fresh cases. Botad has reported three fresh cases and Panchmahals has reported two COVID-19 cases. Anand, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Kheda, Mahisagar, and Patan reported one case each.
With the addition of the 45 fresh cases till 10 am on Friday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 590—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After a death was reported on Thursday and another death reported on Friday, the death toll due to the deadly virus increased to 18 in Ahmedabad.
Apart from the 590 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Vadodara has reported 137 cases, followed by Surat with 102 cases and Rajkot with 28 cases. Bhavnagar and Anand have each reported 26 cases. Bharuch has reported 21 cases, whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar reported 17 cases and Patan reported 15 cases.
Similarly, Narmada has reported 11 cases and Panchmahals reported eight cases. Banaskantha and Chhota Udepur have each reported six cases. Botad, Kutch, and Mehsana have each reported four cases, whereas Dahod, Kheda, and Porbandar have each reported three cases. The coastal district of Gir-Somnath has reported two cases.
The districts of Jamnagar, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Morbi, and Sabarkantha have reported one case each.
According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, eight people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 901 people are stable, 74 people have been discharged, and 38 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 954 cases out of the total 1,021 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 34 have a history of inter-state travel.
As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the 18 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, six deaths have been reported from Vadodara, whereas the diamond city of Surat has reported five deaths. Bhavnagar is trailing Vadodara with three deaths and one death each has been reported from Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Botad, Kutch, Panchmahals, and Patan. Out of the 38 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 32 cases were incidents of local transmission.
So far, 15,914 people have been placed under quarantine.
