Gujaratis take their vehicles for their liking but most importantly, all Gujaratis have spent over Rs 300 crore for the number plates of their liking. While the RTO is still pending in the 24,000 applications for the membership number.
The Gujarat government’s insistence on getting a favorite number on the vehicle increases the revenue. For this, there have been 2.34 lakh applications in the year 2014-15 for obtaining the preferred number in the RTO office, 2.44 lakh in 2015-16, 2.54 lakh in 2016-17, 2.62 lakh in 2017-18, 2.50 lakh applications in the year 2018-19.
Against this, the State Department of Vehicles has given the choice of number plates to 2.20 lakh in 2014-15, 2.31 lakh in 2015-16, 2.41 lakh in 2016-17, 2.49 lakh in 2017-18 and 2.26 lakh vehicles in 2018-19. On an average, the state government is earning an estimated Rs 60 crore per year on selected number plates.
The state government has earned Rs 300,60,00,136 in the last five years by allocating selection of number plates . In the year 2017-18, the revenue was Rs 65.54 crore. As of June this year, revenue of 64.18 crore has been reported. Given this, Gujarati are spending more money for their favourite number plates.
